IMPORTANT: August Updated Maeser Attendance Policy
The opportunity to attend school and gain an education is both a privilege and a right. Students have the right to an education, and they're privileged to get that education at Maeser. We hope that students enjoy coming to school and learning how to better themselves and their community. Because attendance at school is so vital to fulfilling Maeser's mission, we encourage students to be present in school so they can benefit from class discussions, presentation of material, and other meaningful activities.

We have updated our attendance policy to reflect our commitment to these goals. Here are the key highlights of the updated policy:

Absences
Students are allowed any combination of six (6) tardies and/or excused absences per class, per term. Upon receiving a seventh (7th) tardy/excused absence in any class, the student will receive an NG.
If a student receives one (1) unexcused absence, they will automatically receive an NG in that class.
Parents may excuse absences within 10 school days of the date of the absence. Absences that are not excused within 10 school days must be made up in Attendance School to remove the NG.

Tardies
Parents may only excuse first-period tardies. In rare cases, teachers may excuse tardies (e.g., if students are getting extra help after class, or taking a test).
Excused first-period tardies and tardies excused by a teacher do not count toward accumulated tardies.
Students who are checked in late by a parent/guardian will be excused by the attendance secretary.

No Grades (NG)
Students who exceed the attendance thresholds in a class will receive an NG in that class.
Students will not receive academic credit for an NG, unless the NG is made up in accordance with appropriate school policies and protocols.
NGs may be made up in Attendance School according to the protocol outlined in the attendance policy.

Family Vacations
If a family is planning a vacation or other extended period of absence, a "Family Vacation Pre-Approval" form must be completed and turned in to the front office.
Students who miss Final Exams due to family vacations may not take their finals early. They will be given an Incomplete grade ("I") and may reschedule the final exam at a later date.

Parent Notifications
On Monday, August 29, our School Messenger system will begin sending daily automatic notifications via email and phone to alert parents regarding student absences.

You can access the full updated attendance policy on our website under About Us > Policies > Student Policies (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7rf6HcH-DN-NGdUSlA1UTlrSjg) or by clicking here.

If your student is experiencing issues that are keeping him or her from attending class, please let us know quickly so we can work together to ensure their continued growth and success.

Fee Schedule for 2016-2017
Course fees for fall semester and year-long classes will be assessed this Friday, September 2 (which is also the add/drop deadline for fall classes). Once the add/drop deadline has passed and course fees are assessed, these fees are non-refundable. Please review your student’s class schedule and the 2016-17 Maeser Fee Schedule to see what fees will be assessed for your student. Fees are due by Thursday, September 29. Team participation fees for sports teams (high school and middle school) are also listed on the fee schedule. Team fees are due when the student accepts a spot on the team and are non-refundable after the first game/match of the season.

Construction Detours, Carpool, and Parking Information

Construction on 400 West
In preparation for roadway construction along 400 West (the street to the west of our school), Lindon City is replacing some of the aging water service line connections between 200 South and 600 South (1600 North) and connecting them to the new water main. Once crews complete the water line connection work, they will begin to repave 400 West. The repaving work is anticipated to occur in late August and be complete in early September. Please follow posted detours and allow for some extra travel time!

Carpool Procedure
Please pull through the carpool lane all the way to the north side of the building. We will have members of our student council directing traffic for the first several days of school; please be courteous and follow their guidance! We have been working on our carpool procedures for the last couple of years and have found rapid response when we pull all the way through, don't leap frog the line, and do NOT let students off in the front of the building.
Check out our Carpool Do's and Don'ts Video for some important tips on carpool atMaeser.
Helpful Hints for Carpool
  • There is usually no line if you arrive between 7:00-7:15am (drop-off) or3:25-3:30pm (pick-up). In the afternoon, students often stop and talk with their teachers or friends, holding up the carpool for those waiting. To avoid longer wait times, please encourage your student to hurry out to your car.
  • The church and local neighbors ask you to not use their driveways for your personal convenience. Lindon City officers appreciate our cooperation as well.
  • Do NOT stop on 1600 N to drop off your students. This is a HUGE safety concern and has caused accidents in past years.
  • Pull all the way around and down to the math annex to drop off/pick up, please.
  • Do not unload/pick up in the front of the building. Even a few seconds cause longer delays.
  • Do not leap frog in front of the building. This is a two-way thoroughfare and will cause a head-on collision. PLEASE wait until you have turned the corner when another lane opens up for through traffic.
  • Do NOT use the faculty parking lot on the south side of the building for your personal carpool lane.
  • Please be considerate of our student council and faculty who monitor carpool. Service is a major part of our mission.

Back to School Night Uniform Sale and Vendors

Student to Student Uniform Sale
When: August 17, 2016
Who: All students and families
Where: Maeser school lunch room
Time: 5:30pm-8:30pm

To help our students and their families, we are pleased to offer a back to school uniform sale that will include gently worn clothing. To make this sale successful, we ask that you do the following:

1) Please launder all uniforms to be sold (no holes, tears or stains please).

2) Mark each uniform item with 2 inch masking tape (no pins or stickers). Please list your name, the size, gender, and price on the tag. (i.e. M. Jones size 12 girls $2.00).  ** If you are donating your clothing, we will do the labeling for you.

3) Between August 15th-August 17th, you can drop off your pre-labeled uniforms with a self addressed stamped envelope to the front office during office hours (8:00am-3:00pm). Uniforms can also be brought the day of sale between 4:30-5:30pm to the lunchroom. ** We will keep a total of the amount of uniforms you have sold and will then place that money in the envelope you provided. Envelopes may be picked up at the end of the uniform sale with a photo ID. Envelopes not picked up will be mailed to you.

4) If you want your unsold uniforms back, you must come to the end of the sale to reclaim them. Any uniforms not claimed by the end of sale will be used as a uniform donation to the school.  We have very limited storage space and are unable to store many items from one sale to another.

**** To help our school community, we have created a suggested guideline for pricing!  Please keep your pricing within these parameters so that we can provide good clothing at a small cost.  This sale is not a money maker, but an opportunity to allow parents to resale their students unused dress code uniforms and to purchase needed items from other parents. (Think of it more like a swap.)

Dress shirts $3-$5
Cardigans         $10
Hood Jackets $10
Sweatshirts $10
Ties         $5
Shorts $2-$4

Host a Foreign Exchange Student in 2016-2017
NACEL is currently accepting applications for volunteer families who are interested in hosting an exchange student in their home for the upcoming school year. Foreign exchange students make a great contribution to our school, our community, and to your family. Students are carefully selected and screened, and they come with their own health insurance and spending money — all that is required from you is a bed, board and welcome. If your family is interested in hosting an exchange student next year, please call Wendy Waldes for more information: wendywaldes@gmail.com or 801-709-3583.
