Parent Announcements & Volunteer Opportunities
Announcements
Fee Payment Deadline: Thursday, September 29
Course fees for fall semester and year-long classes have now been assessed. The add/drop deadline for fall semester has passed, so these course fees are now non-refundable. Team participation fees for sports teams (high school and middle school) are listed on our 2016-17 Maeser Fee Schedule (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-hXuLKjcNtAemp1SEcxbVFoQ1U/view?usp=sharing). Team fees are due when the student accepts a spot on the team and are non-refundable after the first game/match of the season.
Please review your student’s class schedule and this year’s fee schedule to see what fees your student owes. Fees are due by Thursday, September 29.
You can pay fees in person in the front office during office hours (M-Th 7am-3:45pm, F 7am-12:45pm) or on our RevTrak Fee Payment Site (http://maeserprep.revtrak.net). You will need your PowerSchool parent account login information to pay fees online -- the RevTrak system will not accept student account login information. If you have forgotten your parent login information, please email powerschool@maeserprep.org to request your username or a password reset.
Uniform Swap Committee update:
We got your feedback and came up with the following improvements.
1. We will have 4 uniform swaps this year: Back to School night, Winterfest, New Family Orientation, and end of June.
2. We will start the uniform swap a couple of hours before back to school night begins.
3. We ask parents to USE a SAFETY PIN to attach an envelope with their name on it, to every piece of clothing that they would like money for. Not a straight pin (they fall off, or cut us, and envelopes get lost). We would also encourage parents to bring shopping bags, and plenty of small bills. And please understand that paper does tear and envelopes get lost, and we are only volunteers. We do our best to get cash back to you, but if it is not retrieved after a certain amount of time, we will consider it a donation to the school.
For this reason, we created the Karl G Maeser Student to Student Swap Group Facebook page. It is a closed group and we are working quickly to invite all families. If you don't find yourself invited in the next couple of weeks, please comment on the Official Maeser page [editor's note: and if you haven't joined that group, we encourage it]. This is a good place to sell pricier uniform items, graduation robes, sports uniforms, etc.

DAR Scholarship Deadline Oct. 1
We are looking for 1 student (Class of 2017) who posses the qualities of citizenship; specifically dependability, service, leadership and patriotism, which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation to an outstanding degree.
The counselor and administration team will choose 1 senior who has demonstrated these qualities in an outstanding way.
Once selected, this student has the opportunity, if interested, to enter the Good Citizens scholarship contest which consists of two parts: Part I consists of the student describing how he/she has tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. Part II is a timed essay administered at the school. The winner at your high school will automatically advance to the state level of judging. The winner at the state level receives $250. The state winner will advance to the regional judging, where 8 winners will receive $500. Then two national winners will be selected and they will be invited to the DAR headquarters in Washington, DC to receive $5,000 scholarships, inscribed silver bowls and certificates. Unfortunately, on the school level there is not prize money awarded, however, this is an excellent thing to put on a job or college application.
To apply for this position/scholarship please submit a 1 to 2 page essay describing how you have tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. Please email the essay to your counselor by October 1st. The finalist will be selected by Oct 15th. Title your email DAR Essay.
