About Maeser

    Maeser Pride!
Congratulations to Trestyn Clubb for being selected for the Academic All-State Team for Soccer! We are very proud of you!
    Schoolwide Testing: October 15
This Wednesday, October 15, we will be giving some very important tests to our students:
    • All 7th and 8th grade students will be taking the EXPLORE and all 9th grade students will be taking the PLAN – both of these tests will help your students get a head-start on preparation for taking the ACT and will give us an idea of areas in which they may need additional help.
    • All 10th and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT. For juniors, this test also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), which is the qualifying test for entry in competitions for scholarships to be awarded in 2016. For sophomores, this is a great opportunity to have a trial run at the test before 11th grade when it will count for National Merit!
    • All seniors will be meeting in the lunchroom to review graduation progress and start working on college application prep and post-high school plans.
We ask that you avoid scheduling appointments for your student on Wednesday, October 15, so we do not have to interrupt testing to pull your student out. Please be aware that we cannot interrupt the PSAT (10th and 11th grades) to pull students out. We appreciate your assistance in ensuring the best possible testing environment for our students!
All tests will begin at 7:30am on Wednesday, October 15. Please make sure that your students are on time to school and that they bring a calculator to use on the test. We encourage you to ensure that your student is at school that Wednesday to take these tests. National tests cannot be rescheduled, so if students miss the all-school testing date, they will not be able to make up the test. School will end at 12:00pm, after testing concludes.
Make Up Your NGs in Attendance School
This week: Monday-Tuesday during lunch; Wednesday 12:00-2:00pm in room 151
    Contact: attendance@maeserprep.org
Does your student have an attendance-based NG (No Grade) in a class? Quarter 1 ends this Wednesday, October 15th!
Students who have one or more F or NG grades when term 1 ends (October 15th) will automatically be placed in the Credit Recovery Winterim. A note will go home at that time for any changes. We will have a special extended Attendance School option on October 15th from 12-2pm. Please have your student make up their NGs in attendance school by October 15th.
Students can make up attendance points at Attendance School Monday through Thursday during lunch. The cost for Attendance School is $2 per attendance point and each lunch session makes up one point. Each tardy is one point, tardies of more than 10 minutes are two points, and absences are three points; students accrue an NG in each class that have five or more points. **Fees for Attendance School are due at the time of checking in for Attendance School. We can no longer accept IOUs for Attendance School.**
    Attendance Reminders
    • Parents: Absences must be excused before the end of the term when the absence occurred. To excuse an absence, you can send a note with your student, call the front desk during school hours, or email attendance@maeserprep.org.
    • Students: You only have until the end of the semester to make up your NGs. Once the semester is completed and grades are submitted, all NGs will convert to NCs (No Credit) and become permanent, and the credit must be recovered through other means (i.e, retaking the class or completing an external, online option).
Don’t know if your student has an NG? You can check your student’s most up-to-date grades and attendance in PowerSchool. If you have forgotten your PowerSchool username or password, please contact info@maeserprep.org so we can get you that information.
    ACT Prep Class
Sign-up for the November ACT Prep class is now open at the front desk. This is a three-day class that will be held November 5, 12, and 19 from 3:45-7:45pm at Maeser. The fee for the class is $125. Parents of sophomores should have received a special email regarding this class.
Here are a few comments from September’s class:
    * “I always thought the ACT was some big, scary thing. Now I am not afraid. I know if I study, I can do well.”
    * “This was the kick in the pants I needed to get studying.”
    * “Who would have thought an ACT class could actually be fun.”
    * “I thought this class was going to be super boring... luckily it was actually pretty interesting.”
    Friday Tutoring
Does your student need help with homework? Our National Honor Society students provide FREE tutoring in our school library after school on Fridays from 12:00-1:00pm. All students are welcome!

Judges Needed for Debate and Speech

    Contact: Ms. Sidwell

Want to put in your volunteer hours AND spark your brain? Be a judge for debate and speech tournaments -- no experience required! About 3 times a month, our debaters to go speech/debate tournaments to compete and I have to bring enough judges to cover my entries, so I am ALWAYS in need of judges! We compete in many different events from speech events to drama events to debate events. Most of our judges are moms and dads who have never judged before, whom I train at tournaments to judge. I have also put together some brief videos on how to judge. You don’t have to attend both days and even if you can only give a few hours, it helps! If you would like to help us out, email me at cindy.sidwell@maeserprep.org. Thanks in advance for supporting our awesome team!
