About Maeser

Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy is a college preparatory public charter school serving students in grades 7-12. Parents may request and receive information on Maeser teacher qualifications by contacting the Director at robyn.ellis@maeserprep.org.

    Maeser Pride!

Congratulations to the Maeser Sterling Scholars! Our school had 5 students move on to the semi-finals for Sterling Scholar. These students are: Xander Hooper: Mathematics, Travis Andersen: Science, Sean Robinson: Speech/Theater Arts/Forensics, Savannah See: Vocal Performance, and Amanda Howard: World Languages. These students will compete at their regional competition on Tuesday, February 10th.

    Parent Survey

It is now time for our annual Parent Survey. Please take a few moments to reflect on the opportunities that your students have here at Maeser. We are always earnestly seeking constructive feedback that can help us improve our processes. We encourage your participation in our committees, activities, and classrooms as you are available. Thank you for your help!

    Spring Testing Schedule

The countdown to the end of the school year is on, and Spring testing is now underway! We will be notifying parents as each class prepares to test, but we want to provide you with the complete schedule so you can factor these tests into your planning for vacations, appointments, etc.

For parents who would prefer that their students not participate in the SAGE computer-adaptive test, our teachers have developed our own Maeser end-of-level test for each of the SAGE test classes, to help us gather data to keep our students and teachers accountable for classroom learning over the course of the school year. These paper-pencil tests will be given in students' regular classrooms at the same time as SAGE. If you would prefer to have your student take the Maeser end-of-level test instead of the SAGE test, please stop by the front office to fill out the required paperwork. Please make every effort to complete the parent choice form prior to your student’s first scheduled SAGE Writing test, so we can arrange for your student to take the Maeser test with his or her scheduled class.

    Current Volunteer Opportunities

    Parent Teacher Conferences
We have a great volunteer opportunity coming up. We have been asked to provide a meal for our teachers during Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 26th. The teachers won't be able to go home until late, so this meal will be greatly appreciated. We will provide hot soups in crock pots, rolls, fruit salad or trays, vegetable trays, and cookies. We also need volunteers to bring disposable plates, bowls, and silverware. Please check Sign Up Genius to see what you can contribute.

    College Carnival
We are in need of parent volunteers to help with our upcoming College Carnival on March 26th. Specific needs will be posted on Sign Up Genius so keep an eye on the site!

    AP Scholarship Fund Donations Needed
We are in need of donations to help cover AP exam fees for students whose families are experiencing financial difficulties. Donations to our AP Scholarship Fund can be made at the front desk. Your donations will count toward volunteer hours (be sure to record them on the Volunteer page on our website). Last year our parents and faculty raised enough money to cover ten AP exams for students whose families were struggling. We appreciate the generosity of our Maeser community in making these opportunities available to our students!

    Chinese Class Volunteers Wanted
Any parents or community members who are native Chinese speakers are invited to participate in a variety of in-class volunteer opportunities ranging from talking with students, to sharing cultural perspectives and practices. Please contact Mrs. Woods at anna.woods@maeserprep.org, if you are available during periods 1-3 on varying dates throughout the semester to help volunteer.

Parent Volunteer with Accounting Experience Wanted
The Maeser finances committee is looking for a parent who is a CPA or accountant to assist for a few hours monthly with school finances. If qualified and interested, please contact Steve Whitehouse at steve.whitehouse@maeserprep.org.

    Ongoing Maeser Volunteer Opportunities
Get a head start on your 40 hours of volunteer service for 2014-15! Our current volunteer needs are posted online through Sign-Up Genius, which can be accessed by clicking the Volunteer box on our website (http://www.maeserprep.org) or directly by clicking here: Sign Up Genius.
