Welcome Back!
Hey Maeser Lions!
Welcome to Karl G.
Maeser Preparatory Academy for 2015-16!
As a classical,
college-preparatory high school, Maeser’s goal is to inspire students to become
great, contributing citizens while empowering them to succeed not only in high
school, but also in higher education. That is why Maeser is committed to help
students master their content areas and not just memorize to cram for tests. We
love what we do and are dedicated to our mission and vision. In fact, we
were just recognized as the 2014 Utah Charter School of the Year.
We want everyone to
be a part of our community: students, parents, siblings, local citizens, as well
as our dedicated faculty and staff. Students are encouraged to become
well-rounded Lions academically, socially, and physically. Participation
in extra-curricular activities such as speech, debate, drama, music, sports,
service, writing, or art are a great way to become part of The Pride.
Values-based
education starts with an expectation that students take full ownership of their
lives and cultivate important values. Our school values Truth, Honor, and
Virtue.
·
Truth: Our students seek after and speak the truth.
·
Honor: Honor is the duty to always do better. Maeser
students strive to improve themselves and their school.
·
Virtue: Maeser students strive to serve others in both the local
and Maeser community.
We welcome you to
take a moment and discuss with your family your role in our Maeser community!
Your commitment and support are the most important ingredients in ensuring your
student’s success. Karl G. Maeser emphatically declared, “Be yourself, but
always your better self!” Let’s be our “best selves” together!
Sincerely,
Robyn Ellis, Director

Carpool
Procedure and Helpful Hints
Please pull through the carpool lane all the way to the north side of the building. We will have members of our student council directing traffic for the first several days of school; please be courteous and follow their guidance! We have been working on our carpool procedures for the last couple of years and have found rapid response when we all pull all the way through, don't leap frog the line, and do NOT let students off in the front of the building.

Check out our Carpool Do's and
Don'ts Video for some important tips on carpool at Maeser.
Helpful
Hints for Carpool
- There is usually no line if you arrive between 7:00-7:15 (drop-off), or 3:25-3:30pm (pick-up). In the afternoon, students often stop and talk with their teachers or friends, holding up the carpool line for those waiting. To avoid longer wait times, please encourage your student to hurry out to your car.
- The church and local neighbors ask you to not use their driveways for your personal convenience. Lindon City officers appreciate our cooperation as well.
- Do NOT stop on 1600 N to drop off your students. This is a HUGE safety concern and has caused accidents historically.
- Pull all the way around and down to the math annex to drop off/pick up, please.
- Do not unload/pick up in the front of the building. Even a few seconds causes longer delays.
- Do not leap frog in front of the building. This is a two way thoroughfare and will cause a head-on collision. PLEASE wait until you have turned the corner when another lane opens up for through traffic.
- Do NOT use the faculty parking lot on the south side of the building for your personal carpool lane.
- Please be considerate of our student council and faculty who monitor carpool. Service is a major part of our mission.

School Supply Lists
SOAR Binder Supply List for Students in 7th-9th Grades
Contact: Mrs. Goodrich (marlene.goodrich@maeserprep.org)
The SOAR
Binder System is required for all 7th and 8th grade students and highly
recommended for all 9th grade students. It will help you stay organized and
keep your school work in order.
You will need the following supplies for the first day of school:
- One 1½ inch binder with pockets on the inside covers and a clear plastic window on the outside. Get a high-quality binder so it will last longer.
- One package of transparent plastic dividers with pockets and 8 tabs.
- A zippered pencil pouch that contains pencils, pens, a red pen, an eraser, a small pencil sharpener, and a single hole-punch. Some students also like to have a small stapler. A heavy duty pouch made of fabric will last longer.
- Loose-leaf notebook paper: 50 pages will get you started. Get loose-leaf paper, not a spiral-bound notebook.
- A file folder for each individual class (for your home file).
- A box or other container to hold file folders (for your home file – cereal boxes work great).
You will
receive instructions on assembling and using the binder in the SOAR class. The
supplies are readily available at any office supply store or Wal-Mart.
School Supply Lists for Other Classes
Supply
lists for other classes will be handed out in the first few days of school.
Some of our teachers have also posted their supply lists online: School Supply Lists for 2015-16.

Fall Sports Eligibility
Academic
eligibility for fall sports is based on your 4th term grades from 2014-15.
Students must earn a 2.0 or higher with no more than 1 failing grade to be
eligible. No grades (NGs) count as failing grades. This policy also applies to
8th graders and new students to Maeser Prep.
Sports Eligibility for NEW Maeser Students
If you
will be a new 10th, 11th, or 12th grader at Maeser Prep for the 2015-2016
school year and are interested in playing sports please contact Jared Norris (jared.norris@maeserprep.org) about eligibility. You will need to get a transfer
approved by UHSAA and the earlier the paperwork is submitted the better. This
applies even if you never played a sport at another school. Once a
student attends a high school their eligibility is established at that high
school. New 9th graders will establish their eligibility at Maeser Prep and
should not have to get a transfer approved unless they tried out for a sport at
a different high school.
