5 people, 5 dollars: Help End Human Trafficking
The MPA Cares team is launching its first fundraiser. During this time of year, we are often prompted to serve. While our thoughts are toward toys or seasonal items, millions of people are hoping for the ultimate gift-freedom. Making a real difference in someone’s life doesn’t take as much effort as you would think. Everyone who finds 5 people outside of Maeser Faculty and Staff to donate $5 to Operation Underground Railroad will get a free O.U.R. sticker. The first 10 people to get 10 $5 donations will receive an O.U.R. lanyard. If we all find 5 friends to donate, we will have raised $15,000 before Christmas. We can do amazing things if everyone gives just a little. yourrescue.org/mpacares. ALL PROCEEDS to Operation Underground Railroad.

Schedule for Finals Week (December 14-18)
Final exams are coming up! Students are expected to attend all of their classes as scheduled on Finals days. Classes that do not have a final exam will participate in other activities during their scheduled time. We will be on a special schedule for the four days of Finals:
Monday, December 15: Full Dress Day, Regular class schedule
Tuesday, December 16: Regular Uniforms. 8:00-10:00 1st period. 10:30-12:30 3rd period
Wednesday, December 17: Regular Uniforms. 8:00-10:00 2nd period. 10:30-12:30 4th period
Thursday, December 18: Regular Uniforms. 8:00-10:00 5th period. 10:30-12:30 7th period
Friday, December 19. Regular Uniforms. 8:00-10:00 6th period. 10:30-12:30 8th period
Lunch
Because school ends at 12:30 each day of Finals, we will NOT be offering Gandolfo’s on Wednesday or pizza on Thursday. (We will still have pizza on Monday.) If your student needs to stay for attendance school or sports, please be sure they pack a lunch.
Attendance School
Attendance School will be held from 12:30-2:30pm each day after Finals - the cost is $2 per half-hour session or $6 for the full two hours (buy three, get one free!) and each half-hour makes up one attendance point. We will also have several free school service opportunities during this time for students who prefer to work off their attendance points in this way. If you are not sure how many points your student needs to make up, please email attendance@maeserprep.org or contact the front office during school hours.
Uniforms
Finals are regular school days and Maeser uniforms are required.
Important Winterim/MSI Information
Winterim/MSI Schedule
Winterim begins on Monday, January 4th. Classes will be in session from 9:00am-2:00pm every day. Please plan on dropping off your students no earlier than 8:30am, as there won’t be anyone here and the building will be locked, which means your student may be standing outside for a long time. Lunch is from 11:15-11:45am.
Uniforms during Winterim/MSI
Students are required to wear their uniform during Winterim and MSI, unless they are doing an activity that prohibits them from doing so. However, students do not need to wear their full dress uniform on Mondays.
Winterim Attendance
Winterim is a part of the Maeser curriculum and therefore attendance is taken and is required for credit. In order to receive credit for Winterim, which is a Maeser graduation requirement, students must participate and attend all classes during this time. Exemptions for vacations are not granted during this time due to the seat time required for credit. Please plan your vacations in accordance with our holiday break if at all possible.
Winterfest Save the Date
Winterfest will be on Saturday, January 23th. Students can come set up their Winterfest projects at 9:00am and Winterfest will run from 11:00am-1:00pm. All students should attend and wear Full Dress uniforms. We hope you will come to see the wonderful things our students will have accomplished.
Middle School Intensives (MSI)
All 7th and 8th graders will participate in Middle School Intensives (MSI) during the Winterim term. School will begin at 9:00am and will be excused at 2:00pm each day. Students will take a break from their normal schedule during MSI and will be enrolled in classes designed by the middle school teachers. Each student will receive a schedule next week. A couple of field trips will be planned during MSI so permission slips for the trips will be sent home along with the schedules.
Upcycling Winterim (new items added to the list of donations needed)
The Upcycling Winterim will be creating projects for sale to raise funds for orphanage needs in South America. We are in need of wood pallets, old barn wood, old ladders, old crates, old wooden-framed windows, unique old bottles, old lanterns, mason jars, old hand towels, paint, sandpaper, CDs, old jeans, or old t-shirts for projects this January. Also, if you have rotary cutters or boards or a sander or saw and expertise you would like to lend us, we would really appreciate it. If you have access to any of these items and are willing to donate them to a good cause, please contact Mrs. Cannon at shannon.cannon@maeserprep.org.
China Winterim 2017 (HS, MS, Parents)
We are still inviting anyone to register to attend this winterim to Beijing and Chengdu. It will be an unforgettable, once in a lifetime trip, beyond the usual tourist sites. Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Smith, our resident Chinese and Geography teachers, and Asia-travelers are leading the trip. No prior knowledge of Chinese is needed. Order Your Yearbook Before the Price Goes Up!
Yearbooks are $65 until December 31st. Yearbooks can be purchased in the front office during office hours -- the office will be open on Finals days from 7:30am to 3:00pm. After December 31st, the late price of $75 kicks in until we’re sold out -- so order your yearbook now, before the price goes up!

Applications for NEW students for the 2016-17 school are now on our SchoolMint site: http://maeserprep.schoolmint.net. Applications for the 2016-17 lottery will be accepting until February 1st.

It’s time to reserve your Maeser student’s spot for the 2016-17 school year!
Please fill out an Intent to Enroll form and return it to the front office, along with your $50 enrollment deposit, by Friday, January 8th. Please fill out a separate form for each student who will be returning to Maeser next year in order to reserve their spots. Questions about enrollment? Parent Volunteer Background Checks and Driver Forms
Will you be driving or chaperoning to get your volunteer hours? We are so fortunate to have such a generous community of parents at Maeser! We love having parents help with driving and chaperoning students on field trips and at school activities. In order to ensure that our students are safe and to meet State requirements, we ask that all parents who will be driving or interacting with students as volunteers get an annual background check and complete a parent driver form. Your background check and driver form is good for the whole school year. (When your insurance or driver’s license is renewed, please bring it in so we can make a copy of the new card.) The school will cover the cost of your background check, so all you need to do is complete the forms, get fingerprinted, and bring in your driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Support group for parents of children with ADD/ADHD
There will be no support group this month. We will resume monthly meetings on January 21 at 7 p.m.
Concurrent Enrollment 2nd Semester
Students that will be enrolled in a NEW Concurrent Enrollment course during 2nd Semester need to take care of enrollment and tuition payments during Winterim. Please check the deadlines and make sure you are taking care of enrollment on time. If you need a transcript for enrollment, please see your counselor before Christmas Break.
Admission Deadline
All admissions documentation (including transcripts and ACT scores) must be received by UVU before the admission deadline. Plan ahead!
