Announcements and Info

Charter District Science Fair
Three of our Middle School and three of our High School Science Fair projects advanced to the Charter District Science Fair, to be held Tuesday, February 16th, at UVU, in the evening. In order to make the event possible, the organizers request a number of judges to volunteer and judge the projects. Parents are allowed to judge; they won’t be asked to judge their child’s project. If you’d rather not judge, but are able to assist, we are in need of a few additional volunteers to serve as ushers. If you’re able to assist in either of these positions, please email Mr. Kreitzer at josh.kreitzer@maeserprep.org.

Ecuador Orphanage Fundraising Boutique - Upcycling Winterim
Upcycling Winterim created fabulous projects for sale to raise funds for orphanage needs in South America. We still have some beautiful handcrafted pallet chairs and benches, pallet art, letter blocks, handmade frames, gorgeous upcycled furniture and many other projects. Browse our projects here: http://upcyclingforecuador.blogspot.com/ and email shannon.cannon@maeserprep.org if you see something you’d like to buy. All proceeds go to the orphanages.

Also, join us for an exciting and rewarding trip to South America to work in the orphanages and see the beautiful Amazonia in January 2017. This will be a life-changing experience you will not forget. Details to come!

China Winterim 2017 (HS, MS, Parents)
We are still inviting anyone to register to attend this winterim to Beijing and Chengdu. It will be an unforgettable, once in a lifetime trip, beyond the usual tourist sites. Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Smith, our resident Chinese and Geography teachers, and Asia-travelers are leading the trip. No prior knowledge of Chinese is needed. Please see cost, itinerary, and sign up here at http://groups.rusticpathways.com/trips/maeserchina/.

Pre-China Winterim and Chinese Class New Year Field Trip (HS, MS, Parents)
Planning on going to China for Winterim next year? Just thinking about it? Or, are you in Chinese class? Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Smith will be taking a group of students to ride the Chinese New Year-themed Heber Creeper Railroad on Friday evening, February 5th, meeting at school at 5:45pm! This will be a great chance to get to know each other, and learn about Chinese culture with fun games and snacks on the Heber Creeper! The cost is $20 per person. If you would like to join us, please RSVP to us by filling out this short form, and then please pay at the front desk BEFORE this coming Tuesday at 3:30pm. Families are welcome to sign up as well. See more information about the ride at http://hebervalleyrr.org/specialevents/chinese-new-year-train/

AMC 10/12 (High School Math Students)
The AMC 10 and AMC 12 Math contests will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd. Students that do well on this competition are invited to compete at the national level. For more information about the test, visit http://www.maa.org/math-competitions/amc-contests/amc-1012. Space for the contest is limited. If you are interested in competing with our school, please see Mrs. Plott by Monday, February 1st.

And please respond to the email so Mrs. Vincent knows you are planning to attend. Parent-specific Messages

Enrollment Applications for New Students Open
Applications for NEW students for the 2016-17 school are now on our SchoolMint site: http://maeserprep.schoolmint.net. Applications for the 2016-17 lottery will be accepting until February 1st.

Re-Enroll Your Current Maeser Student for 2016-2017
It’s time to reserve your Maeser student’s spot for the 2016-17 school year!
Please fill out an Intent to Enroll form and return it to the front office, along with your $50 enrollment deposit, ASAP to make sure your student’s spot is reserved and not made available in the lottery. Please fill out a separate form for each student who will be returning to Maeser next year.
Questions about enrollment? Contact our Registrar, Stefanie Slade, at stefanie.slade@maeserprep.org. Questions about paying fees? Email our Business Manager, Karyl Montgomery, at karyl.montgomery@maeserprep.org.

Parent Volunteer Background Checks and Driver Forms
Will you be driving or chaperoning to get your volunteer hours? We are so fortunate to have such a generous community of parents at Maeser! We love having parents help with driving and chaperoning students on field trips and at school activities. In order to ensure that our students are safe and to meet State requirements, we ask that all parents who will be driving or interacting with students as volunteers get an annual background check and complete a parent driver form. Your background check and driver form is good for the whole school year. (When your insurance or driver’s license is renewed, please bring it in so we can make a copy of the new card.) The school will cover the cost of your background check, so all you need to do is complete the forms, get fingerprinted, and bring in your driver’s license and proof of insurance.
For more information and the forms you’ll need, please click here: Parent Background Check and Driver Application Forms.

Driver’s Education Course
A driver’s education course will be offered at Maeser Prep Academy through Wright Driving School from February 29th-March 10th. Classes will be held at the school from 3:30-5:30. The cost for the class is $230 which includes the classroom portion as well as the required drives and observations. The fee can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. Checks can be made out to Wright Driving School. A sign-up sheet will be at the front desk. Contact Mr. Norris (jared.norris@maeserprep.org) if you have questions.
