PowerSchool
Offline This Weekend (August 1-2)
PowerSchool will be offline this weekend (Saturday-Sunday,
August 1st-2nd) while we upgrade our system. The new version of PowerSchool has
a new look and some great new features to help enhance your user experience.
The upgrade includes improvements to the PowerSchool Mobile app: the parent and
student mobile apps have been combined into a single app with this new release,
and you will have the ability to sign up for push notifications whenever there
are grade changes or impacts to your student’s attendance record. We are also
preparing several Maeser-specific enhancements that will be rolled out over the
course of the coming school year – stay tuned!
2015-16
Class Schedules and Schedule Changes
Preliminary student schedules for 2015-16 are now live
in PowerSchool!
If you need assistance logging in or resetting
your PowerSchool password… please email info@maeserprep.org.
If you are a new Maeser family… you should have
received an email this week with your login information for PowerSchool. If you
did not receive an email, please contact us at info@maeserprep.org.
If your student is missing classes in his or
her schedule…
this EITHER means that PowerSchool was not able to accommodate all of your
student’s requests, OR that your student did not request enough classes to fill
a complete schedule. Please plan to visit your student’s counselor on Schedule
Change Day for your student’s grade (see below).
If your student has no classes at all in
PowerSchool…
this means we did not receive a Course Request Worksheet for your student.
Please plan to visit your student’s counselor on Schedule Change Day for your
student’s grade (see below).
If your student needs to make schedule changes…
our
Counselors will be back in the office on
Monday, August 3rd. Please see the schedule below for the day and time for
schedule changes for your student’s grade.
Counselors
Krystal Anderson (A-J): krystal.anderson@maeserprep.org
Sandra Sorenson (K-Z): sandra.sorenson@maeserprep.org
Please use the Master Schedule found on the Maeser Prep website to help you figure out the
changes you would like before you meet with a counselor. Families with children
in multiple grades may do all schedule changes on the same day.
PLEASE NOTE that if
classes are full, your student’s first choices may not be accommodated. It’s a
good idea to have several options in mind when you come to meet with the
counselors.
Counselors are not making appointments
but will see students on a first come first served basis -- be sure to check
the dates below, as the date for middle school has changed since these were
last posted!

August 4: Juniors
August 5: Sophomores

Update Your 2015-16 Enrollment Information
If your plans for next year have changed and you will not be
enrolling your student at Maeser, please contact us ASAP (registrar@maeserprep.org) to let us know. We have many wait-listed students
who are anxiously waiting for a spot to become available!
SOAR Binder Supply List for Students in 7th-9th Grades
Contact: Mrs. Goodrich (marlene.goodrich@maeserprep.org)
The SOAR Binder System is required for all 7th and 8th grade students and highly recommended for all 9th
grade students. It will help you stay organized and keep your school work in
order.
You will need the following supplies for the first day of school:
- One 1½ inch binder with pockets on the inside covers and a clear plastic window on the outside. Get a high-quality binder so it will last longer.
- One package of transparent plastic dividers with pockets and 8 tabs.
- A zippered pencil pouch that contains pencils, pens, a red pen, an eraser, a small pencil sharpener, and a single hole-punch. Some students also like to have a small stapler. A heavy duty pouch made of fabric will last longer.
- Loose-leaf notebook paper: 50 pages will get you started. Get loose-leaf paper, not a spiral-bound notebook.
- A file folder for each individual class (for your home file).
- A box or other container to hold file folders (for your home file – cereal boxes work great).
You will receive instructions on assembling and using the binder
in the SOAR class. The supplies are readily available at
any office supply store or Wal-Mart.
Mrs. Goodrich, SOAR Teacher
SAVE THE DATE: Back to School Night
Back to School Night will be held at the school on
Wednesday, August 12 from 6:00-8:00pm. Please
bring a copy of your student’s schedule, as there will not be time to print
schedules before the class rotation begins. In order to give you a
chance to meet all of your student’s teachers, we will begin the bell schedule
at 6:05pm. After the bell schedule rotation (10 minutes per class), there will
be some free time for you to meet those teachers you may have missed during the
rotation. School supply lists should be distributed during Back to School Night
by your individual teachers.
Our Fall Uniform
Exchange, sponsored by our parent volunteers, will be held
during our Back to School
event in the cafeteria starting at 6:00pm. Please mark your clothes clearly
with a pinned on envelope stating name and price.
If you plan to sell items at the
uniform exchange, we ask for your cooperation in picking up your items and
money at the end of Back to School Night.
- Un-sold uniform items MUST be picked up either that night or by noon on Thursday, August 13th. This is a parent volunteer sponsored event and Maeser cannot be responsible for any uniform items left in the cafeteria. All uniform items remaining at the school after noon on Thursday, August 13th, will be considered to be donations to the school.
- Money envelopes can be picked up that evening from the volunteer in charge. Money envelopes left at the school at the end of Back to School Night will be taken to the front office and MUST be picked up by noon on Thursday, August 13th. The front desk cannot be responsible for these items after this time.
School
Uniforms Updates
Classy
Uniforms Ending School Uniform ServiceClassy Uniforms has
been serving Utah Valley charter schools by providing school uniforms over the
last six years. They have decided to focus on their core business of embroidery
and screen printing, so this will be their last year selling school uniforms.
They will do their best to provide Maeser parents and students with polos with
our embroidered logo, but they
recommend that parents shop early this year, as supplies will be
limited. They are bringing in new inventory that should be ready by July 20th.
We are grateful to Classy Uniforms for the service they have provided for our
parents and students over the last six years and will miss working with them as
our local school uniform vendor, but we wish them well as they refocus their business
model. Our Maeser uniform
items will continue to be available online through Lands’ End School Uniforms and at Dennis School Uniforms in Salt Lake City. We are in the process of looking for another vendor
who can supply our uniforms locally.
Lands’ End
SALE: 30% Off School UniformsLands’ End is holding
a 30% off sale! Now through August 2nd, receive 30% off regularly priced school
uniform items. To take advantage of this sale, visit our school’s page on the
Lands’ End website: http://www.landsend.com/pp/SchoolSearch.html?action=landing&selectedSchoolNum=900150905
and use Promo Code: NOTE30 and PIN: 1204.
Summer
Reading Program
Each summer, Maeser asks students to read a book that
connects to their next grade. This year, we have six exciting books for
students to read. Then, when we get back to the new school year, we'll invite
them and their parents to come to an evening book club where we'll discuss the
book we've all read. Come Friday, 28 August 2015 for an evening of food,
conversation, and a great way to kick off the new school year! You can
find out which editions we’re using and more on our website.

Announcements
All prospective athletes must
register online at www.registermyathlete.com BEFORE
they are allowed to try out!
Fall Sports Eligibility
Academic eligibility for fall sports is based on your 4th term grades from 2014-15.
Students must earn a 2.0 or higher with no more than 1 failing grade to be
eligible. No grades (NGs) count as failing grades. This policy also applies to
8th graders and new students to Maeser Prep.
Sports Eligibility for NEW
Maeser Students
If you will be a new 10th, 11th, or 12th grader at
Maeser Prep for the 2015-2016 school year and are interested in playing sports
please contact Jared Norris (jared.norris@maeserprep.org) about eligibility.
You will need to get a transfer approved by UHSAA and the earlier the paperwork
is submitted the better. This applies
even if you never played a sport at another school. Once a student
attends a high school their eligibility is established at that high school. New
9th graders will establish their eligibility at Maeser Prep and should not have
to get a transfer approved unless they tried out for a sport at a different
high school.

Host a Foreign Exchange Student in 2015-16
NACEL is currently
accepting applications for volunteer families who are
interested in hosting an exchange student in their home
for the upcoming school year. Foreign exchange students make a great
contribution to our school, our community, and to your family.
Students are carefully selected and screened, and they come with their own
health insurance and spending money — all that is required
from you is a bed, board and welcome. If your family is
interested in hosting an exchange student next year,
please call Wendy Waldes (NACEL Coordinator) for more information: wendywaldes@gmail.com or 801-709-3583.
